Madhabananda Nayak, a resident of Lamtaput in Koraput, alleged that most of the time they have to suffer due to undeclared power cuts by the distribution company. “Life has become miserable due to heat and power cuts,” he fumed.
The rescued girls were allegedly being tortured at Kalinga Associates, a private company in Baripada.
Bhanumitra Acharya, former honorary wildlife conservator said, “Forest and revenue staff are inside the sanctuary. NGOs are working while police are often entering the area. When such a huge government system is working, how could this happen inside a sanctuary.”
This is the third time in the last two months that a poppy plantation has been found and destroyed by the forest department. It has an approximate market value of around Rs 10 crore. Till now, opium poppy plantations worth Rs 28 crore have been found and destroyed in Similipal.
