Cuttack: An attempt by a group of miscreants to loot the Jhangir Mangala branch of the State Bank of India (SBI) was foiled on Monday night.

The bank is located on a two-storey building. Though the miscreants broke five locks of the bank, they failed to take cash or any other stuff from the bank. The strong room of the bank is also safe.

Being informed, police reached the spot and started investigation. Police said inquiry would be carried out with the help of a scientific team.

Prashant Lenka, a resident of the building, said, "When i woke up in the morning, the door of my house was locked from outside. Later I called the house owner to open it after which i got to know about the incident. There is no security arrangements at the bank."

SBI branch manager Ashok Patnaik said, "When we saw the locks were broken, we did not enter and informed the police. The miscreants have broken five locks, including three at the main gate. However, they failed to take anything from the bank."
