In today's world, smartphones and other electronic devices have become an essential part of our lives. We use them every day for various purposes, such as communication, entertainment, and work.

However, sometimes, these devices break down or stop working correctly, and we need to get them repaired.

If your device is still under warranty, you might assume that getting it repaired would be free. However, this is not always the case.

Here’s why warranties get canceled and how India's "Right to Repair" law aims to change that.

Why are warranties canceled?

Imagine you go to a mobile care center to get your phone repaired, and you tell them that your phone is still under warranty.

However, the care center tells you that they cannot repair your phone for free and that they will cancel your warranty.

Why does this happen? According to the care center, your warranty got canceled because you got your phone repaired outside the company's service center.

In such cases, the warranty is canceled because the company assumes that the repair may have caused further damage to the device, which is not covered under the warranty.

What is the "Right to Repair" law?

The good news is that the Indian government has implemented the "Right to Repair" law.

Under this law, it is mandatory for manufacturers to share their product details with customers so that they can either repair them by themselves or by third parties, rather than depending on the original manufacturers.

The law aims to help harmonize the trade between Original Equipment Manufacturers and third-party buyers and sellers, thus also creating new jobs.

The sectors where the "Right to Repair" law is implemented include farming equipment, mobile phones/tablets, consumer durables, and automobiles/automobile equipment.

How does the "Right to Repair" portal work?

If you want to know the right repair prices of products, you can check them on the "Right to Repair" portal. The portal is designed to provide a common platform for consumers and repair service providers to connect with each other.

It is a government initiative that aims to provide consumers with an easy and transparent way to get their devices repaired without any hassle.

The portal also provides access to product manuals, spare parts, and software updates to help repair service providers fix the devices efficiently.
