Meta-owned social media apps like WhatsApp constantly strive to enhance their platform's uniqueness by introducing new features for users.

Recently, WhatsApp announced the rollout of passkey support for iPhone users in its latest app version. This feature has been in development since January 2024 when a passkey-related menu appeared for beta users.

Now, after a three-month wait, all iPhone users can enjoy this passwordless login feature, which is already available on the WhatsApp Android app.

On the X platform, WhatsApp stated, "Passkeys are rolling out now on iOS 🔑, providing a more secure (and easier!) way to log back in with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode."

Although the company did not specify the supported iOS versions, an earlier report indicated compatibility with iOS 17 and later.

A passkey offers an alternative authentication method, enhancing security compared to traditional methods like SMS codes.

So, let's see how iOS users can use it on WhatsApp:

Setting up a passkey on WhatsApp for iOS is simple.

  1. First, ensure your app is updated to the latest version from the App Store.
  2. Then, open WhatsApp and navigate to the Settings tab at the bottom right.
  3. From there, go to Accounts and tap on Passkey.
  4. On the next screen, click on the Create Passkey button at the bottom.
  5. You will then be prompted to continue with Face ID or Touch ID.
  6. Tap on Continue, and your passkey is now activated.
