After winning their first two matches quiet convincingly, India suffered their first defeat in the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup against England at St. George’s Park in Gqeberha on Saturday.

In the exciting match, the Women in Blue suffered a narrow 11-run defeat.

Despite the loss, Indian women’s team still has a chance to make it to the semi-finals of the marquee event. India will be aiming to make a statement when they lock horns with Ireland on Monday at the same venue in their final group stage match. If India manage a victory against Ireland, they can secure a spot in the semi-finals and continue their quest for glory.

India have so far emerged victorious in two of their three matches. Meanwhile, England won all three of their matches. A victory against Ireland in their final group-stage game could be enough to help India seal their berth in the semi-finals. However, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side will have to battle hard if they are to finish atop the group.

If India are to finish atop the group, they must not only defeat Ireland but also hope that formidable England lose against Pakistan.

On the other hand, if Pakistan manage to defeat the West Indies, the Women in Blue could be eliminated due to Pakistan’s superior net run rate of +1.542 compared to India.
