In an exciting news for the fans, South African batter Aiden Markram has been appointed as the new skipper of Sunrisers Hyderabad for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season.

Taking to Twitter, the franchise announced Markram’s name and wrote, “THE. WAIT. IS. OVER. #OrangeArmy, say hello to our new captain Aiden Markram,”

Sunrisers did not retain or buy their former captain Kane Williamson at the last IPL auction. Speculations were rife that either Markram or former Punjab Kings skipper Mayank Agarwal could be appointed as the new skipper of the team.

Finally, Makram was given the mantle of the team. He has attained tremendous success by leading the SRH’s sister franchise Sunrisers Eastern Cape to win the inaugural SA 20 title recently. Makram also got great success when he led the South Africa U-19 team in 2014. He was also the skipper of the national team for a brief while.

SRH had brought Makram for a sum of Rs 2.60 crore in the 2022 auction of IPL. The Proteas batsman had a great IPL season last year. He scored 381 runs in the cash-rich league at an impressive average of 47.63 with a strike rate of over 139 including three half-centuries.

The 28-year-old cricketer is touted as the next big thing in South African cricket. The aggressive batter currently holds the No.5 spot in the ICC T20I rankings.
