Team India’s explosive batter Suryakumar Yadav had a forgettable Test debut against Australia on Thursday.

The World No.1 T20 batter failed miserably when India wanted him the most to perform on a spin-friendly pitch. The team management was expecting Suryakumar to play some of his unorthodox shots to unsettle the spinners. But India’s Mr 360 degree took a long stride only to miss the line of Nathon Lyon and was bowled out for a paltry eight runs in the process. Surya faced 20 balls and struck only a boundary during his short stay at the crease.

Netizens were not impressed with the team management selecting Suryakumar and Cheteshwar Pujara for the first two Tests against Australia.

As per several fans, Suryakumar may be a good player for the shortest format of the game, but the explosive batter is not yet ready for the ODI and Test formats and he is yet to learn the tricks of the trade.

“Surya Kumar Yadav is a rare talent, but it appears he has yet to learn ODI/Test skills. Before giving him more opportunities, he should learn it. Gill appears to be a better option. Sarfaraz has performed admirably in domestic and deserves a chance in Tests as well,” a fan tweeted (sic).

“How on the earth can Surya replace Gill in Test cricket? Also, how the hell Pujara continues to find a place?” wrote another fan (sic).

“Surya Kumar Yadav out for just 8 on his debut innings against Australia in Nagpur Test today. Also kohli out cheaply for 12,” another user wrote (sic).

Slamming the selection of Suryakumar another fan wrote, “@bcci selectors made a huge blunder, selecting @surya_14kumar ahead of @ShubmanGill . T20 form should never be the basis of selection for test. The role of enforcer can always be played by @akshar2026, @imjadeja and @ashwinravi99. Moreover, Gill is in the form of his life. Wasted.”
