Mohammed Shami
India’s veteran pacer Mohammed Shami has made a shocking revelation, admitting he once contemplated ending his life. Speaking on ‘Aap Ki Adalat’ with Rajat Sharma, the 34-year-old said it was the love for cricket and the affection he received from fans that ultimately pulled him back from the brink.
Shami revealed how dark thoughts once clouded his mind during a turbulent phase of his life.
The pacer has been entangled in a long-standing legal battle with estranged wife Hasin Jahan. In July, the Calcutta High Court directed Shami to pay Rs 4 lakh monthly alimony, with Rs 1.5 lakh to Jahan and Rs 2.5 lakh to their daughter. The couple married in 2014 and separated in 2018 after allegations of domestic violence.
Shami admitted the social media abuse and relentless accusations weighed heavily on him. “The number of allegations against me in the last 6–7 years, maybe even a terrorist wouldn’t have faced so many,” he said.
On the field, Shami’s form has dipped. The 2025 IPL saw him manage just six wickets in nine matches, while his last outing for India came in the Champions Trophy in March, where he shone with nine wickets to help India lift the title.
Despite setbacks, Shami remains hopeful. With selectors set to pick squads for the West Indies series and Australia white-ball matches, fans will be eager to see if India’s seasoned pacer makes his comeback.
