In a major crackdown, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Thursday seized gold biscuits and gold bars weighing 2.465 kg from a businessman in Bhubaneswar.

The accused was later arrested and sent on remand for questioning.

As per reports, the seized gold was smuggled from foreign countries.

Based on specific intelligence, officers of the DRI carried out a search operation at a location in Bhubaneswar. During the search, 2.465 kg of foreign-marked gold in the form of gold biscuits and ‘Ten Tola’ bars were recovered.

“Investigations revealed that the gold was illegally smuggled into the country. Accordingly, the gold has been seized and one person arrested as per the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962,” a DRI statement read.

The accused was remanded to judicial custody and further investigation in this matter is underway.
