The Opposition BJP and Congress on Wednesday mounted attack on the ruling BJD for sacking Khandapada MLA Soumya Ranjan Patnaik from the party’s vice-president post.

The action against Patnaik came after he raised questions on several issues including 5T Secretary VK Pandian’s visits to various parts of the State through his editorials.

Hitting out at the conch party, Odisha BJP President Manmohan Samal said that BJD leaders are now feeling suffocated within the party.

“Soumya has said the truth by staying within the party. Hundreds of falsehood can’t hide the truth. They have almost axed all the leaders. Nobody is happy in BJD. From workers to leaders, all are feeling suffocated within the party. They are in a state of fear and panic. They will make the right decision in the right time,” said Samal.

Meanwhile, Congress stated that there is no democratic governance in Odisha now rather the State is governed by the bureaucrats.

“There is conflict within BJD. The incidents that occurred in the recent past has proved that there is no democratic governance in Odisha now, rather the State is governed by the bureaucrats,” said senior Congress leader Narasingha Mishra.

“If someone comments based on facts, it should not be considered as opinion against the party. The Ministers and MLAs have no worth now. The administration is giving no importance to them and we ourselves are having this kind of experience,” he added.

Meanwhile, BJD said that party supremo Naveen Patnaik himself has removed Soumya from the party’s vice-president post and they have to accept it.

“Whatever the party supremo will decide, we will follow it,” said BJD MLA Satyanarayan Pradhan.

Earlier, several BJD leaders had slammed Soumya Ranjan in the last couple of days for his scathing attack on 5T secretary and explosive statements on the Chief Minister’s office.
