20-foot-high water jet from pipeline burst disrupts traffic
Commuters in Sundargarh district had a harrowing time on Saturday after a major pipeline burst created the illusion of a water fountain in the middle of the road. The incident took place near Bajrang Chhak in Kuanrmunda, where water from an underground pipeline suddenly shot up to nearly 20 feet in the air.
According to local sources, repair work was underway on a Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) pipeline in the area. However, during the process, the pipe gave way and burst, leading to an uncontrollable gush of water.
The pressure was so intense that the stream of water covered the sky above, creating a surreal scene and sending panic among pedestrians and motorists.
Eyewitnesses said many people were frightened at the sudden outburst and stopped in their tracks. Vehicles on both sides of the road came to a complete halt, and traffic was disrupted for nearly an hour. Several onlookers gathered to capture the unusual spectacle on their phones, even as authorities rushed to the spot.
Later, engineers and officials from the concerned company reached the location and carried out urgent repair work to seal the leak and restore normalcy.
Traffic resumed only after the situation was brought under control.
