Dubai’s sweet ‘Baklava’ @ Rs 3K per kg steals show at International Trade Fair in Bhubaneswar

Visitors at the ongoing International Trade Fair at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar are getting a taste of Dubai’s famous dessert, Baklava, which has quickly emerged as one of the fair’s biggest attractions.

Prepared in a range of shapes and textures, Baklava is drawing attention not just for its rich flavour but also for its premium price tag. A single piece costs Rs 100, while a kilogram is priced at Rs 3,000, making it among the most expensive sweets available at the fair.

What sets Baklava apart from traditional Indian sweets is its preparation method. Instead of sugar syrup, it is made with honey, pure desi ghee, and dry fruits, giving it a distinct taste.

An Afghan trader selling the sweets explained, “These sweets are from Dubai. Prices range from Rs 100 per piece to Rs 3,000 per kg. They are purely vegetarian and made with natural ingredients, no sugar, only honey. This is my third sale in Bhubaneswar, and trade is good. We expect to sell nearly 200 kg this time.”

The stall has turned into a hotspot for visitors eager to sample the international delicacy, making Baklava one of the most talked-about offerings at the fair.

Varieties on Display

The trader further explained that multiple types of Baklava are available at the stall. These include Tart Almond, Ring Mix, Chocolate Baklava, Pyramid Mix, Cashewnut Roll, Finger Baklava, Tart Mix Fruit, Square Walnut, Diamond Mix, Pyramid Almond, Tart Kaju, Kunafa Mix, among others. Each type offers a different blend of dry fruits, shapes, and tastes, catering to diverse preferences.

Visitors Compare Taste to Local Sweets

Local visitors have been drawn to the stall to sample the high-priced sweet. One resident said, “The taste is quite good and it tastes similar to Odia dry sweet Pheni.”

The comparison highlights how Baklava’s layered, flaky texture resonates with familiar Odia delicacies, though its price and exotic origins make it stand apart.

With its unique preparation and international appeal, Dubai’s Baklava has added a global flavour to Bhubaneswar’s International Trade Fair this year, drawing both curiosity and admiration from visitors
