Odisha Assembly adjourned till Monday amid Opposition uproar

The monsoon session of the Odisha Assembly witnessed uproar from the very beginning, leading to a complete halt in proceedings on Saturday. The Speaker adjourned the Assembly till Monday following repeated disruptions.

As per reports, BJD legislators stormed into the well of the House, creating a ruckus over the fertiliser issue, forcing proceedings to be halted once again.

Earlier in the day, BJD legislators staged protests inside the House, raising the fertiliser shortage issue and shouting slogans. The situation escalated when BJD leaders gathered near the Speaker’s podium, creating a noisy scene with slogan shouting.

Amidst the chaos, the Speaker adjourned the House till 4 PM, as not even a single minute of business could be conducted. The Opposition leaders continued the uproar when the House proceedings started again leading to the adjournment till Monday.

Reacting to the adjournment, BJP MLA Jaynarayan Mishra alleged that the BJD has been deliberately stalling the Assembly since Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik is unwell and absent from the House. Countering this, Opposition Chief Whip Pramila Mallik said if they lacked seriousness, how could they be raising the fertiliser issues in the Assembly?

"The Assembly runs in a system like question hour, zero hour and adjournment. We will discuss things like it was being done during their tenure. We are ready for discussion. Their leader is unwell and he will not be able to come to the Assembly. That is why they are stalling the Assembly. The Assembly runs with people's money, and they are stalling it," said BJP MLA Jaynarayan Mishra.

"We are demanding to halt all the programs and discuss about the problems of the farmers. If we lack seriousness, why are we raising the fertiliser issue and the problems of the farmers? We have requested the Speaker umpteen times to discuss about the issues of the farmers," said Opposition Chief Whip Pramila Mallik.
