Ali Fazal has ventured into Hollywood, but his portrayal of Guddu in Mirzapur still remains iconic. In a recent revelation, Ali shared that the role of Munna, eventually played by Divyendu Sharma, was initially offered to him.

Opting for Guddu, Ali believed he could bring more depth to the character, despite acknowledging Munna as a great role.

In a chat with Jist, Ali said, “I wasn’t even offered Guddu first, I was offered Munna. I said this is a very author backed role and it’s a great role but I think I can bring something more to this (Guddu.)”

In the casting process, Ali found himself in a minor dispute with the director over Guddu's appearance, particularly the question of having hair.

“For Guddu, I had to almost fight with my director at the time that I don’t see him having hair,” the Khufiya actor said.

Choosing a natural approach to fitness, Ali skipped supplements and protein powders, focusing instead on nutrition and exercise.

“My most boring time in my life was working out for Mirzapur. I couldn’t sleep. We would work out for three hours everyday and while doing that, you have to maintain your peace because we are creators. I refused using wrong means,” he said.

In the early days, on set, Ali battled insecurities, primarily revolving around his physique. Feeling unprepared, he adopted a hunched posture, unaware that it would become a defining element of Guddu's character. Surprisingly, the director praised Ali's walk, solidifying the unique trait.

Despite his initial insecurity, Ali's distinctive portrayal of Guddu became a standout element of Mirzapur. As the highly anticipated third season approaches for release, fans are eager to see Guddu's compelling journey within the gritty world of Mirzapur.
