Bhubaneswar: Sprinting sensation Dutee Chand has been selected for the prestigious 23rd Ekalabya award for 2015. Weightlifter Pramila Kirsani and chess player Saina Salonika have become citation winners, a released said.
The award committee made announced the international sprinter’s name after the meeting. She will get a cash award of Rs 5 lakh along with citation at the Ekalavya Award function, the date of which will be announced later.
Chand has had a brilliant international and national track record for the past two years.Her achievement include bronze medal in women 200 meter race at 20th Asian Athletic championship held in Pune and gold medal in 100 meter event at the national games in February held in Kerala.
Besides, two other sportspersons-Pramila Kirsani and Saina Salonika will receive runners up prizes for their remarkable performances in their respective fields. Both will receive a cash prize of Rs 50,000 each.
The award, instituted by Indian Metals Public Charitable Trust (IMPaCT), the charitable wing of the IMFA Group, in 1993, is conferred every year on young sportspersons of Odisha.
Announcing the names of the winners, trustee of IMPaCT and MP Baijayant Panda said “IMPaCT has been in continuous pursuit to recognize and foster excellence in sports and literature besides contributing to the general welfare of the society at large. This award has been attract young talent and inspire them to perform better in national and international arena”.
