Berhampur: A six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth near a village at Gangapur area in Ganjam district, police said on Monday.
The accused, identified as Santosh Pradhan (20) of Digi village, was detained by the police.
The victim was first admitted at sub divisional hospital at Bhanjanagar and then referred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here, police said.
Though details about the incident was not known, the police said the accused allegedly raped her on the outskirt of the village after luring her yesterday.
Father of the girl lodged a complaint against the accused in Gangapur police station today after the victim narrated the incident to her mother.
Since the victim has injury marks, we immediately sent her for medical treatment at Bhanjanagar. She was referred to MKCG Medical College and hospital where she is now undergoing treatment, Inspector In-charge of Gangapur police station Chitta Ranjan Behera said.
Details of the incident would be known only after talking to the girl after her recovery and questioning of the accused person, he said.
