Champua: BJD Councillor from Ward no-1 of Champua NAC Gitarani Naik on Friday was elected chairperson of the newly created urban local body (ULB).
Out of total 13 councillors of Champua NAC in Keonjhar district, 12 supported Naik. BJD had won nine seats whereas Independent candidates had bagged four wards in the recently concluded ULB polls.
Naik said, “I will give credit of the win to party supremo Naveen Patnaik. In coming days, I will workfor overall development of Champua.”
Meanwhile, BJD councillor Mamata Behera was elected as chairperson of Baliguda NAC in Kandhamal district. Out of 13 councillors of the NAC, eight voted in support of Behera in today’s chairperson election.
From BJD, Behera had filed nomination while Kausalya Naik had filed her papers for the post from the Congress.
