Bhubaneswar: The work for railway track on 289-km Kurda-Balangir route from Balangir side would begin in December this year in first phase, said the State’s Transport minister Ramesh Majhi on Wednesday.
After the first apex committee meeting for the railway project, Majhi told mediapersons that the work will be done initially on 19 km land acquired for the project.
In July, Union Railway minister Suresh Prabhu inaugurated a railway line between Khurda Road and Begunia, a 32-km stretch of the Khurda-Balangir track at Begunia in Khurda district.
Work on the 112-km stretch from Begunia to Daspalla in Nayagarh district was going on.
The work for Khurda-Balangir route, survey for which was done before Independence in 1945, started in 2007. The Khurda-Balangir route would link coastal Odisha with the western region of the state.
