Itishree murder: State govt files ATR in SC
New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Odisha government today submitted its action-taken report (ATR) before the Supreme Court on Itishree Pradhan murder case. The next hearing will be held on Tuesday.
The apex court had asked the State government to file an affidavit by Monday on the measures it has taken after it appointed senior bureaucrat Rajesh Barma for an administrative inquiry before CBI took over the probe.
Alleging involvement of many influential persons in the murder, a Bangalore-based law student had filed special leave petition in the Supreme Court in March last year praying for a CBI probe into the entire episode.
The court had ordered the Central probe agency to investigate the murder of the contractual teacher, asking it to form a team to arrest the main accused.
A resident of Puri, Pradhan (28) was working as a teacher in an upper primary school at Tikiri in Rayagada district. She was set on fire while she was sleeping in the hostel within the school premises in 2013. After struggling for life for five days, she succumbed to her burn injuries at a private hospital in Vishakhapatnam.
Months before her death, she had lodged numerous complaints and approached authorities at various levels, ranging from the local police to the chief minister, about the sexual advances by school sub-inspector Netrananda Dandasena, but to no avail.
