Cuttack: Denying his personal links with arrested Dhalsamant brothers, BJD MLA Debasis Samantray, who was seen sharing dais with the criminal at a programme, on Tuesday denied the alleged political motive behind the arrest.
“Police had been tracking their activities since July last year and had collected evidences against them. Their arrest is not politically motivated”, Samantray said adding arrest cannot be made under any political pressure.
“One among them (criminal duo) was bailed out while another was absconding. Sushil, who was moving legally on bail, was present in a blood donation camp organised by Cuttack youth club and I had attended the programme on invitation”, he added.
Notably, it was said that the arrest of the criminal duo was politically motivated when the top political leaders like union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, senior Congress leader Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra, Cuttack(Barabati) MLA Debasis Samantray and MLA Rajashri Mallik were seen sharing dais with the Sushil Dhalsamant.
Pradhan had earlier clarified that he was not aware about their criminal antecedents of the Dhalasamant. Similarly, Mohapatra had said that he had gone there to encourage the blood donors.
BJP earlier had questioned State government’s inaction against the notorious criminals.
“How the criminals are roaming freely during BJD regime?”, BJP state president Basant Panda had questioned. Dhalasamant brothers have spread their crime activities during the period of Naveen Patnaik as home minister, he had added.
