Cuttack: The self-styled spiritual leader Alok Bisoi alias Anand Atma baba who was arrested from his ashram at Rameswar hill near Salepur, is the main accused in the murder of Ashok Patra, whose half-burnt body was recovered on Ashram premises on Saturday.
It was confirmed by the police after interrogating the baba at salepur police station today.
“He (baba) and his two nephews murdered the youth named Ashok Patra before setting ablaze with ghee. Baba was produced in court today. Three-day remand was sought for more interrogation,” Cuttack SP (rural) said. However,court allowed cops to take him on two-day remand.
Police sources said some confessions regarding ashram activities were elicited after hours of interrogation.
On Saturday the half burnt body of Patra nearby Chahadpada village was recovered from the ashram following which public outrage erupted. Irate locals vandalized the Ashram and set som vehicles on fire.
Angry mob today blocked the Cuttack-Salepur main road neat Paga square following the incident.
It is alleged that the godman’s ashram in Rameswar village of Cuttack’s Salepur block is built through unfair means by grabbing land. A written complaint has been registered against the godman by the joint secretary of the Communist party of India (CPI), Uday Kashari Verma, at Salepur police station.
