Liquor seized from house of sarpanch candidate
Bhubaneswar: In a not so rare incident in panchayat poll bound Odisha, the excise officials on Wednesday seized as many as 63 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor from the house of a sarpanch candidate in Betnoti area of Mayurbhanj district.
Excise officials said a case has been registered against the sarpanch candidate Simon Hansdah in this regard.
“After being asked by the district Collector to keep a tab on the activities of Hansdah against whom a complaint was made for illegally storing liquor in his residence, we came to know that the information was correct. Accordingly we raided Hansdah’s house and seized the liquor bottles,” said Sriharsha Swain, district excise superintendent.
Asked about the storage of huge quantities of liquor, Hansdah however feigned ignorance. He said he had purchased the liquor in bulk amount for his relative’s marriage party.
“I have done no wrong. This is a political conspiracy by my opponents to tarnish my image ahead of panchayat polls,” said Hansdah, who is backed by BJD.
