Bhubaneswar: Three eminent Odisha artists of Odisha have been selected for the prestigious Kendra Sangeet Natak Akademi Samman.
They are Prafulla Kar, Alok Kanungo and Sadasiv Pradhan.
While Kar will receive the award in the Sugam Sangeet (light song)) category, Kanungo and Pradhan will receive the award for Odissi and Chhau dance respectively.
Besides, two young Odia artists have been selected for the Bismillah Khan Yuva Samman. They are Sukumar Tudu from Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district for acting and Dhyanananda Panda of Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district for folk dance.
This was informed by Dhirendranath Mallick, secretary, Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi, who attended a two-day meeting of the Akademy as a representative from Odisha in Agartala on Friday. The meeting was presided over by the chairperson of the Akademi Sekhar Sen with the director, National School of Drama, New Delhi and director, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in attenadance.
The Akademi announced the name of 36 artists selected for the award in the presence of the representatives from 30 states and 20 eminent artists.
The selected artists will be awarded by the President of India in a special function in New Delhi
