Farmers’ body observes 12-hour bandh in Birmaharajpur
Birmaharajpur: Krushak Bikash Parishad, a farmers’ body, is observing a 12-hour bandh at Birmaharajpur in Subarnapur district today to protest against the non-payment of input subsidy and crop insurance dues to farmers who suffered crop loss in last year’s drought.
The dawn-to-dusk bandh has disrupted normal life in the town as workers of the Praishad staged road blockades at various important squares of Biramaharajpur. While shops, other business establishments and Government and non-Government offices have remained closed, vehicular movement came to a standstill due to the bandh. Holding placards and raising slogans, the activists slammed the State Government for its various ‘anti-farmer’ policies.
The farmers’ body has also demanded an end to the collection of water tax as canal water is not being supplied to agricultural land since 2004, said a member of the Parishad.
