Bhubaneswar: The commissionerate police have stepped up preventive measures during the celebration of Diwali in the capital city on Wednesday.
While specific instructions have been given to the cracker shop owners not to sale high-sounding crackers, the fire tenders have been put on high alert for any fire mishap during the festivity.
“There will be special deployment of police at sensitive locations in the city during Diwali. Besides, to keep tabs on drunken driving and hooliganism, police officers of respective police stations will be pressed into service and monitor the proceedings in their jurisdiction”, Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said.
In the event of any fire mishap, the fire tenders have been kept in readiness.
“A fire control room has been set up at Kalpana Square which would regulate all calls from any part of the city so that the nearest fire tenders would be informed to rush to the place of occurrence for quick action. This will drastically cut down the response timing and minimise the loss of life and property. The deployment of the fire tenders to the mishap site would be done within one minute”, Fire Officer Trilok Kumar Babu said.
Besides, for immediate treatment of the patients having burn injuries, authorities at the Capital Hospital have made all arrangements.
“We are ready to provide first aid and critical treatment of patients for which a team of specialist doctors from orthopaedics, surgery, eye, ENT and Medicine departments will be on duty at the casualty ward till 10 PM”, said Dr Binod Kumar Mishra, Superintendent of Capital Hospital.
This year, more than 800 cracker shops under the Bhubaneswar Urban Police District have been provided with license to sell crackers.
