Meet Vice Admiral Arti Sarin – the highest-ranking woman officer ever to have served in the Indian Armed Forces!
Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin took over as the Director General, Armed Forces Medical Services on Tuesday (Sept 1). 
SVA Arti Sarin made history by becoming the first woman to head the Tri-Service Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS). 
DGAFMS oversees all medical policies for the Armed Forces and reports directly to the Ministry of Defence. 
In her 38 years of service, Arti Sarin has held prestigious posts in Army, Navy & Air Force.
Vice Admiral Sarin is a distinguished graduate of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, and joined AFMC in 1985. 
She holds PG degrees in Radio-diagnosis and Radiation Oncology, and is also trained in Gamma Knife Surgery (University of Pittsburgh in US). 
Throughout her illustrious career, she has held key positions, including DG of Medical Services for both the Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. 
She has commanded major units like INHS Asvini and AFMC and served as Command Medical Officer of both Southern and Western Naval Commands. 
In recognition of her exceptional service, Arti Saran was honoured with prestigious Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) by Prez Droupadi Murmu in July 2024.
