India's First Reusable Hybrid Rocket ‘RHUMI 1’ Successfully Launched From Chennai

The RHUMI 1, India's first reusable hybrid rocket, was successfully launched from Chennai on Saturday. Tamil Nadu-based start-up Space Zone, in collaboration with the Martin Group on Saturday successfully launched RHUMI 1. RHUMI-1, carrying 3 Cube satellites and 50 PICO satellites was launched to a suborbital trajectory from TTDC Ground in Thiruvidandhai, ECR, Chennai using a mobile launcher.Key features of RHUMI-1 include its angle, which can be fine-tuned from 0 to 120 degrees, allowing precise trajectory control. These satellites are tasked with gathering data for research on global warming and climate change. The RHUMI 1 rocket is designed to be entirely free of fireworks and does not use TNT. It employs a hybrid propulsion system that combines solid fuel with a liquid oxidizer to enhance efficiency and lower operational costs. The hybrid design minimizes the risk of accidental detonation by combining solid propellant and liquid oxidizer only during combustion. Space Zone India aims to develop two-stage rockets with a payload capacity of up to 500 kg and is considering future launches in the UAE deserts.
