Launching a fresh attack against the BJD-led government, the saffron party said the untoward incident in the southern Odisha district, which prompted the State government to impose curfew and snap internet services to bring the situation under control, has left a black spot in governance in Odisha.
The probe committee comprising four BJP MPs reached the city to conduct an inquiry. The panel will submit "a factual report" to the party president.
“The state government has drastically failed in both preventing the violence from taking place and taking punitive action against those responsible," said MP Aparajita Sarangi.
In the letter, the SP was also informed that the rally would pass through Muslim-dominated areas like Bhutpada, Motijharan, Raza Nagar, Sunapalli, Kumbharpada, and Daliepada.
Speaking to media, Gangadhar said, “We have, so far, lifted curfew in four police limits. After assessing the situation, we will withdraw the night curfew which is still there in Town and Dhanupalli police limits today.”
The committee will visit Sambalpur and prepare a report based on facts that will be submitted to the BJP President for necessary action.
The senior BJP leader also slammed the BJD over slain gangster Atiq Ahmed’s aide Guddu Muslim’s Odisha visit and his alleged links with a ruling party leader.
Addressing a presser, Bargarh MP Suresh Pujari on Monday alleged that ‘anti-national slogans’ were raised during the recent Sambalpur violence on April 12. This proves the presence of anti-national elements here, said Pujari.
Apart from the relaxations in the curfew timings, the internet services in Sambalpur have also been restored. Earlier, the internet suspension was extended on Saturday by another 12 hours till 6 am today.
In the letter, the BJP leaders held the police department and the Odisha government responsible for the violence.
Protesting against the Sambalpur violence, the VHP observed bandh in 14 districts of the State on Wednesday. The bandh was supported by the BJP. On the other hand, the BJD took out a peace rally, protesting against what happened in Sambalpur during Hanuman Jayanti.
Many people, who depended on the Internet, for their business are going through untoward problems. Dozens of students are now forced to travel all the way to border districts for online classes.
As per Sambalpur SP B Gangadhar, the curfew will be relaxed further in the next one or two days as the situation has improved.
Members of the BJP and Bajrang Dal also extended their support for the bandh. The protesters demanded stringent action against the rioters that caused mayhem in Sambalpur during Hanuman Jayanti. They burnt tires and blocked the main roads and highways during the protest.
The districts in which the VHP will observe the bandh are; Sambalpur, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri and Rayagada.
