New Excise Policy in Odisha this month, details inside

A delegation from the state has recently visited two other states to study their excise models. Based on their findings, Odisha’s new policy is being shaped, and the final draft is expected to be ready this month.

The Odisha Government is preparing to introduce a new excise policy within this month. Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan confirmed that discussions with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will be held in the next two days. Preparations for the new framework are already underway.

Study of Other States

A delegation from the state has recently visited two other states to study their excise models. Based on their findings, Odisha’s new policy is being shaped, and the final draft is expected to be ready this month.

Stronger Measures Against Illegal Trade

The policy will focus heavily on curbing the illegal sale of liquor and narcotic substances. According to the Minister, enforcement drives have already been intensified, and strict legal action will be taken against offenders.

"Regarding the new excise policy, discussions with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi will happen soon, in the span of 1 to 2 days. After the implementation of the excise policy, we hope to complete it before Dussehra. We will complete the process of the new excise policy soon."  Said Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan. 

Awareness Campaign from Gandhi Jayanti

Alongside enforcement, the government will also stress public awareness. A state-wide campaign titled “Nisha Nuhe Jibana” will be launched on 2nd October, Gandhi Jayanti. The campaign will run for an entire month to spread awareness on the dangers of substance abuse.

Minister’s Assurance

Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan emphasised that the government is committed to cracking down on illegal trade while also safeguarding citizens’ health and well-being through education and awareness.
