Amid normalcy returning to the violence-hit Sambalpur and with no reports of any untoward incident, curfew will be lifted in the remaining areas under two police limits on Saturday, informed Superintendent of Police (SP), B Gangadhar.

Speaking to media, Gangadhar said, “We have, so far, lifted curfew in four police limits. After assessing the situation, we will withdraw the night curfew which is still there in Town and Dhanupalli police limits today.”

“We urge the public to use social media responsibly and not to share any kind of rumours, inflammatory or hate messages. If you want to verify some information, then you can call our control room. Besides, we have also formed a social media monitoring cell and monitoring all platforms,” the top cop said.

So far, two social media group administrators have been summoned and warned. If someone violates the guidelines, then we will register cases if it attracts IPC provisions, Gangadhar cautioned.

The police have arrested 102 persons for their involvement in connection with the violence. While 46 persons have been arrested in connection with the April 12 incident, 56 people were apprehended in April 16 incident, he informed.
