The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has called for a 12-hr bandh in 14 western Odisha districts (15 organisational districts) including undivided Koraput districts on Wednesday as a mark of protest against the recent violence in Sambalpur during Hanuman Jayanti.

The bandh will be in effect from 6AM till 6PM tomorrow.

The districts in which the VHP will observe the bandh are; Sambalpur, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri and Rayagada.

Informing the same, Secretary of VHP’s Paschim Prant Sakha, Kamalakanta Biswal said, “The VHP will hold bandh protesting the violence in Sambalpur. I request the people to support us by closing down all the businesses and offices tomorrow.”

The Bhartatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also extended its support to the Bandh.

“We are supporting the bandh called by the VHP to create awareness among people about the violence so that such incident never happens again. The government should stop arresting innocent people in a bid to appease a particular section of the public,” said State BJP Chief, Manmohan Samal.
