As Gundicha Yatra has already been over, special trains will run for Sandhya Darshan, Bahuda Yatra and Suna besha.

According to sources, the mishap occurred during the Rath Yatra celebrations at Jarasingha area in Deogaon block of Bolangir district.

Despite strict security measures, unidentified miscreants have allegedly flattened over 20 earthen chullas (ovens) inside the kitchen (Roshaghar) of the Puri Gundicha Temple. The matter came to light on Saturday.

A day after embarking on a nine-day sojourn, Lord  Balabhadra, Jagannath and Devi Subhadra along with Lord Sudarshan will be escorted to the Adapa Mandapa in the Gundicha Temple in Puri today. 

One person died in the mishap that took place at Mathasahi under Basta police limits in the district while seven others sustained critical injuries.

While the chariots of Lord Jagannath and his siblings are pulled on road all over the world, at Kankana Sikhari in Chilika near Nairi village under Khurda district the annual nine-day sojourn of the Holy Trinity is observed on boats in Chilika.

According to the servitors, the temple is specifically for those who aren’t able to go into Srimandir due to one or the other reasons.

The incidence of suicide by devotees by either jumping from a pinnacle or lying themselves under the wheels of chariots have been referred to in many writings

Historians opine that sometime in 1230s Jagannath triad emerged in the Puri temple and hence, Ratha Yatra of the three must have started thereafter.

Spirituality is at its peak on Bada Danda (Grand Road) in Puri as the sibling deities were ushered out of their abode in Pahandi Bije on Rath Yatra today. In the three colourful and gigantic chariots, the Trinity embarks on a nine day sojourn to their aunt's place - Gundicha temple.

Before the commencement of the Rath Yatra, Union Home Minister Amit Shah performed 'mangla aarti' (auspicious ritual to pay obeisance to Lord) of the deities in the temple in the early hours.

Meanwhile, devotees have flock to Badadanda in large number to witness the annual sojourn of the Holy Trinity.
