Contractual Employees Up In Arms Against Odisha Govt, Protest Erupts In Bhubaneswar
Former External Affairs Minister and MP Patiala Preneet Kaur on Thursday held a protest along with women from various constituencies of Punjab before handing over a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Patiala.
Amid protests during Odisha Bandh (strike), scuffle was reported between agitators and police in laxmi Sagar chhak, Bhubaneswar.40 persons including president of Naba Nirman Yuva Chhatra Sangathan were detained following face-off with police.
PG council authorities allowed the students to sit in the examination following a discussion with the Vice Chancellor of the varsity.
A number of non-student miscreants arrived near the office of the Vice Chancellor (VC) inside the varsity campus and threatened the students by pointing swords.
The protesters demanded to include the 192 acre land at Phase-3 in Gopal Prasad under the rehabilitation scheme and provide jobs to each member from the 140 families evicted from the land for mining.
The scheme involves recruitment of the jawans into the army, the navy and the air force for a four-year-period followed by compulsory retirement for most without gratuity and pension benefits.
Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi added, “Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik is the legislative head of the State and it is his duty to protect an elected representative of people. Today I think he is doing his duty,” she said while taking a veiled dig at the administration’s failure in preventing the spate of attacks on her recently.
The ruling-BJD on Monday began its 3 days state wide protest against rising LPG and fuel prices.
“The central government has been claiming that the use of cylinder has increased by 98 percent. But the National Family Health Survey report says the increase is only 20 per cent which is a normal process,” Chandbali MLA Byomakesh Ray said.
