Tension ran high at Berhampur University after two students were reportedly barred from appearing for fourth-semester examination.

It is being alleged that the varsity professor had misbehaved with a girl student of Odia department following which the students attacked the teacher. However, tension prevailed after the students were barred from entering the varsity campus.

Students alleged that though both parties were found guilty but the authorities took action against the accused students not against the professor. When students tried to fix the matter with authorities, the latter locked the PG Council gate. As a result of which many students did not appear for the examination as part of the protest.

PG council authorities talked to students after an hour of protest and assured to allow the accused students to sit in the examination following a discussion with the Vice Chancellor of the varsity.

Chinmay Pradhan, a student, said, “On June 21 the professor tried to outrage the modesty of a girl student after inviting her to his residence on the pretext of teaching her. When two of her friends came to know about it, they had gone to the professor for a discussion. But her friends were sent to jail custody.”

PG Council Chairman Pratap Mohanty said “The decision which was taken on June 30 regarding the matter remained the same. Both the students and the concerned teacher have submitted documents. The disciplinary committee will examine the papers submitted by them and then we will come up with a final decision.”
