Cyclone Jawad: IMD chief on cyclone wind speed and how it compares to previous cyclones.

Amidst the looming threat of a possible cyclone hitting South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh coasts on Dec 4, as many as 95 mail and express trains have been cancelled for Dec 3rd and 4th, 2021.

As per the IMD, a low pressure area lies over South Thailand and neighbourhood and it is likely to emerge into Andaman Sea in the next 12 hours.

Odisha has sounded alert after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast a low pressure area over South Andaman Sea on November 30. The Low Pressure is expected to develop into a cyclonic storm in the first week of December.

The present deep depression over Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a Cyclonic Storm. It is likely to move nearly westwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh - south Odisha coasts between Vishakhapatnam and Gopalpur around Kalingapatnam by evening of September 26, 2021.

Union Minister of State for MSME, Pratap Sarangi and National Vice President of BJP, Baijayant Panda today conducted an aerial survey of Balasore and Bhadrak districts which were battered by very severe cyclonic storm Yaas on May 26. Both the leaders assessed the damages caused by the storm which made landfall near Bahanaga coast of the district with hostile winds of around 150 kmph and torrential downpour.

The Odisha government has undertaken restoration of roadways and drinking water supply on a war-footing in all the districts majorly affected by the very severe cyclonic storm Yaas which wreaked havoc in north-coastal and some other adjoining interior regions of the State on May 26.

The inflow of water has increased in Budhabalanga and Subarnarekha rivers due to the cyclone-triggered rainfall but there are no chances of flood in these two rivers.

Former Member of the Parliament and National Vice President of BJP, Baijayant Panda today reviewed the damages caused by very severe cyclonic storm Yaas in various areas of the coastal district. 

Strong winds coupled with torrential rainfall in the wake of very severe cyclonic storm Yaas have wreaked havoc in several coastal and interior districts of Odisha. 

With the cyclonic storm Yaas approaching towards Odisha coast, State Health Director Bijay Mohapatra shared the preparations for management of Covid-19 crisis during and post the cyclone.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday directed all senior officers to work in close co-ordination with states to ensure the safe evacuation of people from high-risk areas in the wake of cyclone Yaas and instructed all concerned departments to ensure timely evacuation of those involved in off-shore activities.

With the low pressure on East central Bay of Bengal set to turn into a cyclonic storm tomorrow, the Odisha government has pulled all efforts in strengthening it's action plan to tackle the probable disaster. 

The Low Pressure over East-Central Bay of Bengal has intensified into a well-marked low pressure system, the Regional Meteorological Centre of the IMD informed on Sunday.
