Kendrapara: Former Member of the Parliament and National Vice President of BJP, Baijayant Panda today reviewed the damages caused by very severe cyclonic storm Yaas in various areas of the coastal district. 

Panda assessed the damages in Rajnagar area first after visiting the district which was battered by the cyclone yesterday. The senior BJP leader will also take stock of the post-cyclone situation in some of the worst-hit regions like Gupti, Satabhaya and Panchubarahi. He will hold discussions with local villagers and also look into relief and restoration works in the affected areas. 

Panda is scheduled to meet cyclone-induced flood-hit residents of Upulai village under Baradia gram panchayat in Rajkanika block of the district. As per sources, the locals of the area have been marooned after flooding during the cyclonic storm. 

Cyclone Yaas battered several north-coastal and interior districts of Odisha after hitting the landmass near Bahanaga coast in Balasore with powerful winds with speed up to 150 kmph. 

The damages caused by the storm are yet to be estimated and the State government has directed district collectors to conduct preliminary damage assessment and submit reports within 24 hours. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has also conducted an aerial survey of the cyclone-hit regions of the State.
