In the aftermath of Cyclone Yaas, heavy rainfall was witnessed in Similipal & Karanjia areas of Mayurbhanj district. Heavy rainfall in Similipal area triggered a rise in water levels in rivers passing through the national park.
Water levels in Bhandan, Kanta Khairi, Deo and Baitarani rivers have risen amid incessant rains under the influence of the cyclone Yaas. Rise in water levels in these rivers flooded and marooned villages in Jashipur area needing evacuation by authorities. Marooned families were rescued by Police and Fire Services personnel. Meanwhile, all the rescued have been kept safely at cyclone centres. Due to the rise in water levels, traffic movement on sections of National Highway 49 was disrupted with rainwater flowing over roads.
