LIVE Updates: PM Modi To Visit Odisha To Review Cyclone Yaas Impact, Get All Latest Updates Here

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Odisha and West Bengal on Friday to review the impact of cyclone Yaas on the two coastal States. Modi will first hold a review meeting in Bhubaneswar and then proceed for an aerial survey in the affected areas of Balasore, Bhadrak and Purba Medinipur. He will then hold a review meeting in West Bengal.

Chief Minister Naveen on Thursday reviewed the post-cyclone situation and announced relief for seven days for all the families of 128 marooned villages of the cyclone-affected districts. Meanwhile, the Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Yaas continues to weaken after landfall and turns into cyclonic storm, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) issued red warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in nine districts of Odisha including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Dhenkanal.

The Cyclone Yaas crossed north Odisha coast at 20 km south of Balasore between 10 and 11.30 am  today. IMD DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said “The sustained wind speed was 130-140 kmph gusting upto 150 kmph while it crossed the coast. After hitting the coast, it moved in north-northwestwards and lay centred 15 km south-southwest from Balasore. It is currently moving in north-northwest direction and will weaken further in the next three hours.The cyclone had commenced the landfall process around 9 a.m.
