Several girl students of a school in Rayagada have tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday.
According to the data furnished by the Health Department, as many as 49 cases have been detected among 0-18-year-olds.
Odisha now has 366 active COVID-19 cases, while 12,78,121 people have recovered from the disease, including 40 in the last 24 hours. Besides, 53 other coronavirus patients have died due to comorbidities so far.
Odisha government on Wednesday announced to reopen the Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) in the State from March 28. AWCs across the state were closed since 19.04.2021 due to the prevailing pandemic.
The toll mounted to 9,101 with three fatalities in Kandhamal district. These are confirmed as Covid deaths after an audit. Fifty-three other coronavirus patients have died due to comorbidities so far, according to data.
The daily infections are lowest since December 27, when the state had logged 123 cases. It had registered 168 cases and eight deaths on Tuesday.
There are 7,099 active COVID-19 cases, including 1,303 in Khordha, which is in the yellow zone. As many as 50,536 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, a bulletin stated.
The active cases declined to 37,762, including 10,467 in Khurda, which is in the red zone along with Sundargarh and Cuttack, where current infections are over 2,500 each.
The daily spike in Covid-19 cases saw a marginal dip in Odisha as the State reported a total of 10939 virus infections in the last 24 hours. The addition of the new positives takes the cumulative Covid tally to 714380. With 11614 recoveries reported late on Monday, the total number of recovered cases has risen to 601224. The active Coronavirus cases meanwhile have surged to 110554.
The second wave of Covid pandemic has now started to make its presence feel in jails across Odisha. In the span of some weeks, prisons in the State have fallen victim to the resurgence in the virus cases putting the government on toes.
Ganjam district collector Vijay Amruta Kulange on Sunday called upon the residents of the district to definitely get tested for Covid before organising or participating in marriage ceremonies.
