Several girl students of a school in Rayagada have tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday. 

According to sources, at least 41 students of a school in Chandrapur area of the district were found infected with the virus. 

The Distrit Welfare Officer has informed that all the infected students have been put in isolation. The students are being supplied fresh cooked food while their health condition is also being monitored by a medical team.

Initially, two to three students were taken to hospital after they showed cold and cough like symptoms. But after testing they were found Covid positive. 

Soon an antigen test was conducted which showed positive results in about 41 cases. But a majority of them have no symptoms to worry about, said Ashok Kumar Satpathy, DWO.

Meanwhile, the State today recorded 836 infection cases including 169 from the age group of 0 to 18 years. The new daily virus tally in the state capital Bhubaneswar reduced to 117 while Sundargarh posted 242 positives, the maximum number of new cases today. 

Active cases have surged to 6181. In some other districts, the new virus cases jumped below two digits aftet a brief lull.
