Bhubaneswar: Covid-19 cases in Odisha continue to surge with the State reporting a ‘highest’ 4,270 new positive cases in the last 24 hours pushing the positive tally to 1,62,920. On the other hand, the virus claimed 11 more lives, taking the death toll to 656.

Of the new cases, 2478 were reported from quarantine centres and 1792 were local contact cases.

As per the statistics compiled by the Information and Public Relations department, Khordha reported the maximum number of 876 cases followed by Cuttack (374), Puri (287), Jagatsinghpur (188), Bargarh (183) and jajpur (162).

With the spike in COVID-19 cases, the active case count stands at 36,473, while 1,25,738 infected persons have so far recovered from the disease.

According to the Health and Family Welfare department, Puri and Sambalpur reported three deaths each, while Khordha registered two fatalities. One each death was reported from Kalahandi, Sambalpur and Sundargarh districts.

The deceased include:

  • A 45-year-old male of Puri district who was also suffering from Diabetes
  • An 80-year-old male of Puri district who was also suffering from Diabetes
  • A 70-year-old female of Puri district who was also suffering from Diabetes & Hypertension
  • A 60-year-old male of Sambalpur district who was also suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease & Chronic Kidney Disease
  • A 62-year-old male of Sambalpur district who was also suffering from Diabetes
  • A 65-year-old male of Sambalpur district
  • A 61-year-old male of Khordha district
  • A 52-year-old male of Khordha district who was also suffering from Diabetes
  • A 59-year-old male of Kalahandi district who was also suffering from Psychiatric illness
  • A 65-year-old male of Sambalpur district
  • A 31-year-old female of Sundergarh district who was also suffering from Diabetes
