The recent Srimandir heritage corridor row has landed the Odisha government in soup and has raised the eyebrows of many. 

Industries Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra said since 2020, the government "ensured grounding/inauguration of projects worth over Rs 30,000 crore, generating a potential employment of nearly 40,000 in the state".

Further, he said, the process for recruitment of over 1000 professors, associate professors and assistant professors in various disciplines in all the state universities has already started.

Stating that this has now become the BJD's new benchmark of political strength in the entire state, the BJD president urged his party leaders to utilise this strength strategically everywhere, so that they can fare much better than the last time in cooperative elections.

It is discussed in the political circle that Kalikesh Singh Deo, Pushpendra Singh Deo, Chairman of Western Odisha Development Council Asit Tripathy, OTDC Chairperson Shreemayee Mishra, Raseswari Panigrahi, Jogesh Singh, Nalini Pradhan and Prabhas Singh are the contenders from Western Odisha.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday asked forest department officials to prepare an integrated plan for significant reduction in forest fire incidents.
