The Special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) court judge charged the accused guilty of committing the crime in Soro area of Balasore district and awarded the sentence.

On the basis of the complaint, police have lodged an FIR against several persons, including the husband, sister-in-law and mother-in-law of the woman under sections 498A, 366, 323, 506, 326 377 of IPC besides Section 4/5 of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005.

The local panchayat had also asked the girl's family to compromise and take an 'undisclosed amount.

When the girl, sobbing, somehow managed to get home at around 6 pm, her family members asked her whereabouts. She then narrated her ordeal following which her parents informed the police.

The case has been registered by the Badamal Police and the accused has also been detained for interrogation.
