A Class 12 student was allegedly raped by a youth while on her way back from college in Badamal Police Outpost area of Sambalpur district on Saturday.
Based on the complaint of the father of the minor girl, the accused identified as Suresh Mahakud of Potubahal village in the district has been detained by the Badamal police for interrogation. Suresh got married six months back.

As per reports, the girl was returning home in Birmarajpur area under Charmal Police Station at around 5 pm on her bicycle after finishing classes at college. However, when it started raining midway, she took shelter under a tree near a forest.
Suresh, who was passing by saw her and forcibly took her to the forest and allegedly raped her, the complaint stated.
“She usually leaves home at around 9 am for the classes and reaches by 4 pm. She was waiting there for the rain to stop when he (Suresh) kidnapped and took her to the near forest. He then raped her,” alleged the minor girl’s father.
“The case has been registered and we have launched an investigation into the incident. The girl’s father alleged that she was returning home when the accused took her to the forest and raped her. The accused has been detained and we are interrogating him,” informed Basant Kumar Dalai, IIC of Charmal Police Station.
Earlier, a 15-year-old boy was held for allegedly raping a three-year-old girl in Jajpur district. The incident happened at a village under Sukinda police station area on Tuesday night when the girl was alone at her home.
