A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 16-year-old boy during Ganesh Puja celebrations at K Sitapur village under Kashinagar Police limits in Gajapati district on Friday.

After receiving the information, Kashinagar Police rushed to the village and admitted the minor girl to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) at Paralakhemuni. She is currently undergoing treatment at the DHH.

Police also picked up the accused and sent him for medical examination.

As per the complaint filed by the survivor’s parents at the Kashinagar Police Station, when the villagers were celebrating Ganesh Puja on September 10, the boy took the girl to a secluded place in the village and allegedly outraged her modesty. He fled the spot after committing the crime.

When the girl, sobbing, somehow managed to get home at around 6 pm, her family members asked her whereabouts. She then narrated her ordeal following which her parents informed the police.

She has been admitted to the hospital and a team of doctors including paediatrics are examining the girl. Her health condition is stable,” informed a Pediatrics at the DHH, Prashant Kuma Padhi.

“After receiving the complaint, we admitted the girl to the hospital for treatment and examination. Further investigation into the incident is underway,” informed Paralakhemundi Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Ramakrushna Pati.
