The Victorian government announced on Monday a A$351 million ($219 million) package funding to help families affected by the flooding, as well as rebuilding damaged roads and clean-up efforts.
A BJP delegation has reviewed the flood situation in the State and submitted a report to the party’s state unit president Samir Mohanty. The party also released a complaint letter describing the flood a man-made disaster.
As part of its ongoing measures to combat the flood-situation, the Odisha government on Tuesday decided to open additional gates of Hirakud Dam to flush out excess floodwater entering the reservoir. As per the decision, the floodwater will now be released through 40 gates of Hirakud.
During the financial year 2021-22, the Central Government has released Rs 17,747.20 crore to 28 states for their SDRF and an additional fund of Rs 3,543.54 crore has been released to seven states from NDRF too, officials added.
Heavy downpour has left many areas flooded in Kerala. Landslides triggered by rainfall in Idukki and Kottayam led to death of several persons. As per national media reports, more than 20 people have been killed and several are still missing.
On urban flooding, the BMC Commissioner informed that city civic authorities had earlier marked 27 vulnerable waterlogging spots but after record-breaking rainfall this year, the numbers of such susceptible zones have been revised to 75.
Though there are no threats of any major flood, but it is anticipated that the floodwater might enter some low-lying villages in Bhograi and Baliapal in Balasore districts.
