After Sambalpur, diarrhoea cases were reported from various parts of Puri.

As many as 30 people, reportedly hit by diarrhoea in Balisahi, Barahi Lane, Red Cross Road, Swetang Gali, Khuntia Sahi, Nolia Basti, and some other areas, were hospitalised, informed sources.

It was also alleged that a resident of Barahi Lane succumbed to diarrhoea, though no official confirmation was received.

One of the diarrhoea-affected persons said, "All this is because of the contaminated water that we drink. Sewerage water gets mixed with the tap water underground. It creates a problem. I have been suffering from diarrhoea for the last one week.”

Meanwhile, Watco has started repairing the pipelines and cleaning of water tanks.

Collector Siddharth Sankar Swain has directed the health department and Watco to immediately take steps to contain the situation.

“The CDMO has been instructed to send a special team to provide necessary medical assistance in the area and take necessary steps to resolve the issue. A specialised team of the CDMO will look into it,” he added.

Last year, the water-borne disease was also reported from Baseli Sahi and Markandeswar Sahi.
