During his visit to Odisha capital Bhubaneswar, Vaishnaw on Saturday said that, “Wherever there are movement of wild animals, we will increase the height of the railway tracks so that there is enough space in the underpass for the elephants and other animals to pass.”

The wildlife office doesn't know the reason for the deaths of another 176 elephants as the cases were reported after the carcasses had putrefied. The rest succumbed to infections -- 51 died of anthrax, seven of herpes and 334 of other diseases.

Several elephants had lost their lives in the track during earlier days also after being hit by trains and hence the Tamil Nadu government had moved the Madras High Court to direct Railways to reduce the speed of trains at night under 45 kmph.

The State Energy Department has released a fund of Rs 445.75 crore to the power distribution companies to increase the ground clearance of the electrical transmission networks (33 kV, 11 kV, LT) and replace bare conductors in elephant corridors and movement areas.
