While Dilip Tirkey is contesting from Sundargarh Lok Sabha seat on a Biju Janata Dal (BJD) ticket, Prabodh Tirkey, former captain of the Indian men’s Hockey team, is from Talasara Assembly constituency on a Congress ticket.

The two leaders, who hopped parties and recently made a homecoming, are reportedly left sullen after the first list. It is believed that the grand old party could not repose faith in them.

The Jatani MLA attended a cricket match in Bhubaneswar North Assembly constituency, where BJD MLA Sushant Rout was present. In the video, he can be seen praising the BJD MLA and speaking about Sushant’s achievements in the last five years.

Two-time BJD MP from Berhampur and Ollywood actor, Sidhant Mohapatra after joining the BJP was fielded as the party’s MLA nominee from the Digapahandi Assembly seat while two-time BJD MLA of Khallikote, Purnachandra Sethi has been given a chance to contest from the same seat on a BJP ticket. 

The Congress has even gone to the extent of giving tickets to two members of a family to fight polls, though some new faces have been given chances

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has fielded Congress leaders like Anshuman Mohanty, Jatani MLA Suresh Routray’s son Manmath Routray and Pradeep Majhi in Kendrapara, Bhubaneswar and Nabarangpur respectively.  

BJP leader Golak Mohapatra said, "The BJD should first announce the names of the candidates for 147 Assembly seats. Why the BJD is having a headache for our candidates. Is the ruling party waiting for imported leaders? That is why it is not announcing the candidates for the remaining 75 seats.”

The Congress has not at all come out with its lists of candidates for LS and Assembly seats. In certain seats, the three parties have adopted a wait-and-watch policy, though they say that their candidates have been selected. 

The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is trying its level best to retain its Kantamal seat this time. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress have also started firing on all cylinders to capture the conch part’s fort. 

Odisha Pradesh Mahila Congress president, Meenakshi Bahinipati in a press conference said if the Congress is voted to power they would waive off loans of women members of self help groups.

In his letter to BJD president, Naveen Patnaik, former MLA & BJD leader Dambaru Sisha said he wants a fresh start to meet the aspirations of his people and workers. 

Congress veteran Bhakta Das said, “The party will first announce the names of its nominees in 60 Assembly seats where our candidates lost in 2019. The leaders who are still attached to grassroots workers will be given priority.”

Meanwhile, reports suggest that actress Swara Bhasker is said to be one of the candidates that Congress is considering for the Mumbai North Central seat.
