Rahul Gandhi took the truck ride in Haryana from Murthal to Ambala to speak to the drivers to understand their issues and problems, party sources said on Tuesday.

With the latest inclusion, 23 districts are now included under the SDC. The new districts which were brought under the SDC are- Balangir, Ganjam, Boudh, Balasore,  Sambalpur, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Nayagarh, Nuapada, Angul, Bargarh, Jajpur, Jharsuguda and Deogarh.

Senior Congress leader Suresh Routray said senior leaders of the party stayed away from the campaigning which, he said, was another reason for his party’s debacle in the by-election. 

Siddaramaiah, 75, and Shivakumar, the party's trouble shooter who won from Kanakapura by over one lakh votes and who turns 61 on Sunday, are both front runners for the chief minister's post.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik addressed party workers at Sankha Bhawan, BJD’s office in Bhubaneswar, in the wake of the resounding victory of party candidate Dipali Das in Jharsuguda bypoll.

“It had been a dream of my father to build a new Jharsuguda. And I will fulfill my father’s dreams, by following the guidance of the Chief Minister,” said newly-elected Jharsuguda MLA Dipali Das.  

While a total of nine candidates are in the fray, it is a triangular contest between the BJP, the BJD, and the Congress. The three parties are hopeful of winning the bypoll. 

“I am a royal tiger and come what may; I would never become a dog," said Congress leader Tara Bahinipati.

The Congress said there is no question of the BJD joining with the third front because they are wary of their mistakes. Once they join the third front, they would come under the scanner of the CBI and the ED. 

The strong rooms are under CCTV surveillance and the district administration officials are supervising the security arrangements.

"They have not recognised Modi.... if Modi is there...we can cross any limit to save the people of India," he added.
